The town, for the most part, was safe, but there was something up with the swamp - something dangerous. Belladonna usually had to venture outside the territory to find herbs, but trudging through the swamp on her way back was the worst.

As her feet sunk into the sludge with a disgusting thonk noise, Belladonna was aware of something behind her, in the trees. It stared with gleaming eyes that she could barely spot, and before she could even spin around to face her attacker, an owl swiftly dove towards belladonna, landing ungracefully into her chest. It seemed to be mutated - the owl was pitch black, and Belladonna managed to scramble out of the sludge just in time to catch the owl in her chest.

It peered at her curiously - and Belladonna realized the animal wasn't going to harm her. It clicked it's beak at her and she just stared back, still shocked - what was with this guy? was he following her? "What are you doing, little guy?" she asked, but the owl hopped closer to Bella's face, gently nudging her. Did it want food? she was so lost.
