Gabe knew consuming anger. At first, it began as something simple, direct, a response to the injustices he would see, particularly those in the lives of children. He could wield it, then, direct it toward the people he would tear apart; he was always efficient in that, but sometimes, Gabriel could feel the pull, the temptation to make it slow, to wring every cry and call it penance. It blazed brighter later, when nothing seemed to ever change, and that was when handling it became more like damage control; where once it was a weapon he could sharpen as he pleased, and direct it with ease, it took on a life of its own, snarling at the bars. There were a few times he couldn't rein it in, and the aftermath- he had never forgiven himself for the terror in those kids' eyes, looking at him and able to see only a greater monster than the one he'd just put down. He was never supposed to become the dragon.

Following that, it...burned him out. Eventually, there was nothing left for the fire to consume, and once the anger died, he was left hollow, the ashes exhausting him. Everything went downhill afterward; the choices he made in his bone-deep fatigue brought Gabe to the person he was today. At least physically. He couldn't say how much had changed upstairs when he had little to no memories of those months he spent at the mercy of the eggheads.

A few things went unchanged, mostly his fierce instinct to defend, whether it be from an outside attacker or the person themselves. It was the latter, in this case, and if Gabe were less experienced, the scene would have given him pause: Myliu, tearing into what must have once been some kind of rabbit. He didn't, however, immediately moving to separate Myliu from the bloody mess by placing one of his limbs in the way and pulling the child backwards. "Myliu, stop. Easy there, kid. Focus on me. Help?"
